Lucy is one of our home-raised, registered beefalo girls—about 36% bison—and has been a really easy one to have around. She’s on the smaller side for our program, so she doesn’t quite line up with the direction we’re heading as a herd, but she’s got a lot to offer the right setup. What she lacks in stature, she makes up for in correct conformation, ease of handling and she is as cute as a bugs ear. Her size mostly comes from getting bred a bit too early (thanks to a rule-breaking bull), but beefalo are known for having smaller calves that grow well, so it hasn’t been something I’d expect to limit her future production in a meaningful way.
She’s been running with our beefalo bull since April 13th and will stay with him through May 1st. Given her percentage, she has some flexibility from a breeding standpoint-her future calves can still qualify for registration even if paired with a non-beefalo bull.
Lucy is quiet, easy to handle, and already up to date on her spring vaccines and worming. She’d be a nice fit for someone looking to build or add to a smaller beefalo group with a laid-back, manageable female.
She’ll be heading up to summer pasture with the herd next weekend, but if someone happens to reach out this week before I haul to the mountains, I’m open to making something work for the right home. Otherwise, she will be offered for more in the fall. For more info text me at 509-531-7233
